Code of Conduct for Students

 
 

As a student with PlayFight you will:

SAFETY

  • Behave responsibly & take responsibility for your own safety & the safety of others during training sessions

  • For your own safety & the safety of others, you will not train while under the influence of drugs or alcohol

INJURIES

  • Stop training if an injury happens, inform the coach, administer minor first aid, and call for help when necessary - ensure that all injuries are recorded in the accident book

  • If you or another student becomes injured during class or whilst performing off-site, you must follow concussion protocols to ensure the right treatment is administered

KIT & HYGIENE

  • Bring the right kit to class & make sure your training gear is clean

  • Maintain personal hygiene & cleanliness

  • Make sure any jewellery is removed & earrings & rings are covered with tape


EQUIPMENT

  • Look after the equipment & premises as if they were your own

COMPLAINTS & SAFEGUARDING CONCERNS

  • Report any incidents of bullying, harassment or sexual abuse, including homophobia & transphobia to Playfight coaches. Or if you feel more comfortable, please report to our independent safeguarding officer, even if you are just a witness. Milly Wildish milly@mawsafeguarding.co.uk

SAFER SPACES POLICY

  • Consent: Wrestling is a full-contact physical practice. Before you touch anyone or make physical contact, ask for permission from your training partner

  • Privileges: Be aware of your privileges including less obvious or invisible hierarchies. Look out for others who are less confident than you and ensure you play your part in including and encouraging them by allowing them to take their turn in the ring first

  • Respect: Celebrate differences in our training community. Do not discriminate against anyone on the grounds of gender, age, race, class, religion, sexual orientation or ability

  • Treat other students with respect & appreciate that everyone has different levels of skill and learning needs

  • Make PlayFight classes a welcoming & friendly place to be

  • Our classes are about having fun & meeting new people, so please do chat as you train. We want everyone to feel supported & encouraged during all our classes

  • Follow our Code of Conduct at all times

  • Promote & demonstrate courtesy & integrity towards others during classes

As a student, we understand you have the right to:

  • Enjoy classes, gradings and other events free from bullying, discrimination or abuse

  • If you feel uncomfortable at any point we ask that you voice your concerns to our coaches or to our Independent Safeguarding Officer: Milly Wildish milly@mawsafeguarding.co.uk

  • Know what training, qualifications and checks our instructors have

  • Have your consent sought for anything outside of our initial consent form, such as permission to film or photography

  • Be respected by instructors and other students, and be treated fairly at all times during classes and related events

  • Feel welcomed, valued and not judged based on your race, gender, religion, age, class, sexuality or ability

  • Be encouraged, supported and develop skills with our help

  • Be looked after if there's an accident or injury and have a contact informed if necessary

Code of Conduct for Instructors & Volenteers

 

As an instructor or volunteer with PlayFight you will:

SAFEGUARDING & REPORTING

  • Implement our safeguarding policy & procedures at PlayFight classes & related events

  • Report any concerns you may have about abuse or poor practice to our Independent Safeguarding Officer: Milly Wildish milly@mawsafeguarding.co.uk

  • Listen to and report concerns that students raise with you regarding our classes, coaching or the conduct of other students to our Independent Safeguarding Officer: Milly Wildish milly@mawsafeguarding.co.uk

COACH-STUDENT RELATIONSHIPS

  • Respect your position of trust and maintain appropriate boundaries with students at all times

  • Never enter into sexual relationships with students, no matter what their age, respect & understand that as a coach you are in a position of trust and any sexual relationship with a student would constitute an abuse of power

  • As of 09 March 2021 it is illegal for teachers or coaches to have sexual relations with students aged 16 & 17. Breaking the Position of Trust law will result in prosecution & will lead to you being banned from coaching and placed on the Sex Offenders Register

  • Behave appropriately online in accordance with positively representing PlayFight Professional Wrestling School

COACHING QUALIFICATIONS, INSURANCE & CERTIFICATES

  • Take responsibility for keeping your relevant coaching, safeguarding and first aid training up to date

  • As a coach, it is your responsibility to ensure you have appropriate public liability insurance in place from your designated sports governing body

SAFETY & RISK ASSESMENTS

  • Keep students safe at all times by supervising sessions appropriately, using safe coaching methods and ensuring you put the safety of students first

  • Always maintain a maximum coaching ratio of 1 coach to 12 students

  • Ensure equipment is fit for purpose & safe to use. Carry out equipment safety checks before, during & after sessions

  • Use constructive and positive methods of developing students' skills, without humiliating, harming or verbally abusing them

  • Challenge and address instances of poor, negative, aggressive or bullying behaviour amongst students

  • Lead by example when it comes to good sportsmanship, etiquette, positive behaviour and commitment to practice

  • Make Professional Wrestling a friendly and welcoming place to be

  • Be sensitive to the needs and concerns of students when supervising paired or group exercises

  • Champion everyone's right to take part and celebrate difference in our community by not discriminating against anyone on the basis of gender, race, religion, age, class sexual orientation or ability

As an instructor or volunteer with PlayFight you have the right to:

  • Enjoy the time you spend with the community and be supported in your role by senior coaches

  • Be informed of our safeguarding and reporting procedures, and understand what you need to do if something is of concern

  • Have access to ongoing training in all aspects of your role

  • Be listened to, be involved and contribute towards decisions within the community

  • Be respected and treated fairly

  • Feel welcomed, valued and not judged based on your race, gender, religion, class, age, sexuality or ability

  • Be protected from physical or emotional abuse from students and be supported by senior coaches to resolve conflicts if they arise
